So if it is possible that in the problem may have been solved; does this mean that all I have to do is install ubuntu and the OS will automatically do what ever it needs to do to make the card work? I just want the computer to work. I do not know what I am doing and desperately want to fix up this computer. Please be creatife with me I am a complete newb ssb0353 ubuntu and have not even tried to install it yet. For simple recording I would recommend Audacityor Ardour but it uses Jack Audio Server so it can be little bit harder to setup.
This computer is an old one. The third one might come in handy in ‘worst case scenario’, but I don’t think that we will need it. The computer has 2 gigs of ram, I think this should be plenty enough for a studio computer.
I would love to be able to use ubuntu; but at this point I dont care if it is windows creatige ubuntu. A while back I had the chance to play with a computer that had ubuntu on it and I liked it. I’ve not yet purchased any recording software and I’m looking forward to learning how to use many of the open source programs offered by the ubuntu software center.
Your first link is from Or, would I need creagive download and install something? I found this but I need confirmation that this is something safe. I really hope someone helps me because I am very lost.
It is only going to be used for amateur music recordings, nothing serious; just me, my drum machine, guitar and a microphone.
Are all the links for the same thing? If You only wanna to do simple recordings, You can use “normal” Ubuntu.
Thank you, I will try those programs if I get this to work. I dont know what “configure Jack” means? I wish to use this computer to record my guitar, drum machine and vocals; I really need to get it working.
Las much memory does it have?

Hi, welcome to the fora. I’ve just found this but as I’m new to ubuntu I still do not understand everything and have net yet tried to install it. It seems to indicate though we don’t know for sure until testing that the problem was solved back then.
Your second link is regarding Windows drivers. If You want “proper” musician distro You can use UbuntuStudio creatie which You will have pre-configured Jack Audio Server audio server with minimal latencies, used by most pro-like audio software. Please, any and all help will be well appreciated.

Thanks for your help. I just found this, http: Does anyone have any other advice? I found this http: I do sincerely want ubuntu installed as the OS.
It might be worth a mention that I’ve also got an old nVidia card in the DELL as well but at the moment the soundcard is my concern, I can do away with the video card if I must.
